Muscat Daily - 05.03.2014

Competence HR, a consultancy firm based in Oman, is planning to set up an incident management training centre in collaboration with eXtreme Virtual Reality (XVR), a software company from Europe.

According to Mark Pudwell, business development and training manager of Competence HR, the main aim of the centre is to train departments and agencies in the government and private sectors to prevent and mitigate effects of incidents, regardless of their cause, size and location and reduce loss of life, property and harm to the environment.

XVR will demonstrate a software to be used at the centre at a forum which will be held at Grand Hyatt Muscat on May 19.

Training will be conducted by qualified instructors from Oman and abroad. The software that will be used at the facility will provide virtual scenarios to candidates. “Our software will train, develop, assess and also certify competence of people in different incidents in a 3D virtual reality environment where they can develop their decision making skills.

“The software will assess the ability of the candidates to take decisions in a specific situation or in an incident. “The result can be seen on the computer, based on which the trainers will give them feedback,” he added.

Meanwhile, Maj Gen, Abdullah bin Ali al Harthy, chairman, Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulances (PACDA) said the software programme will be helpful for a host of agencies in the sultanate “This would be a fantastic innovative learning tool for all security agencies, ROP, PACDA and oil and gas sectors."
