Performance Management

You spend a lot of money recruiting employees, training and developing them and paying their salary every month. As such it is important that you understand what you are getting for your investment. An effective performance management scheme will enable you to understand how your employees are doing against the objectives that you require them to achieve.

It is important that your employees are working towards the objectives required to ensure the business achieves its goals. It is individual performance that drives your organisational performance. It is vital that everyone understands your company’s vision and goals and how their work fits in. Doing this increases your employee’s engagement and improves performance delivery. Performance management ensures that everyone is working towards common goals and that everyone has a clear understanding of their role and job expectations.

Each individual is held accountable for their own duties and responsibilities and setting clear goals and expectations helps with this. Performance expectations must be based on job analysis; be clear, specific and understandable; reasonable and attainable; measurable, observable or verifiable and results orientated. Regular feedback is essential so effective communication is vital. Many performance management schemes are graded enabling them to be linked directly to rewards programmes.

Two way communication enables managers and employees to work together towards the overall company objectives, enables current performance to be assessed, to consider development needs and to look to the future – positively!
